The 2011 Summer Activities Guide, which has been mailed to in-district residences, is also available online. The online version has several exciting components, including a new interactive guide
with color-coded bookmarks for your convenience and a search function. A traditional PDF version is available as well.
Also included within the activities guide, starting on page 11, is the annual Summer Camp Guide.

Snag a four-ticket package for Timbers' home opener through charity auction

The Tualatin Hills Park Foundation, in partnership with the Portland Timbers, is auctioning off a four-ticket package to see the Timbers in their MLS home opener vs. the Chicago Fire at JELD-WEN Field on Thursday, April 14.
This charity auction will benefit THPRD's "Who Should Play" program, which assists children of families who could not otherwise afford to take part in Park District programs.
Bidding, which is under way, starts at $500 for the four-ticket package. The initial bidding process ends on Tuesday, March 29, at 6 p.m. The winner will be announced on Monday, April 4. >> Read more
Celebrate Month of Green in April

Join THPRD in celebrating sustainability in Park District natural areas and parks throughout the month of April.
Visit the Green Gardening Fair on Saturday, April 30, at the Tualatin Hills Nature Park to learn about and purchase native plants. Find out what we are doing in our natural areas by joining us for a walk. Or get involved in a habitat restoration project.
Look for special activities throughout the district to discover sustainable practices. Check out the schedule for more information about Month of Green.

Rhododendron Show slated for April 23
|
The historic Stable at Jenkins Estate will be filled with rhododendron and azalea trusses for the annual Rhododendron Show on Saturday, April 23. You can submit your own entry just visit this spectacular display. Admission is free.
Entries will be accepted for judging from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. the day of the event. The show is open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. The plant sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. >> Read more

Bond funds used to acquire sites for future park, trailhead/natural area

THPRD has acquired more land to support implementation of its bond measure that voters approved in November 2008.
Three adjacent properties totaling 6.67 acres at the northeast corner of Farmington Road and southwest 165th Avenue will be combined to form a new neighborhood park, riparian corridor and wetland. They were purchased for $990,000 total in bond measure funds.
A separate acquisition, for a property just north of Bronson Road and the Sunset Highway at NW 174th Avenue, will become a natural area and future trailhead for the Bronson Creek Trail. The 2.84-acre site was purchased for $424,500 in bond funds.

BES project nearly complete around Garden Home Recreation Center

After a long winter of construction, the city of Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services is wrapping up work around THPRD's Garden Home Recreation Center.
Fanno Creek Trail is now completely open between SW Oleson Road and SW 86th.
A new play structure has been installed and is now open to the public. Trenches in the play field have been filled and need only to be reseeded to complete the restoration process.

District opens two more community gardens; seven gardens now offered

THPRD is responding to a growing demand for community gardens by opening two more this year, with plans for even more gardens in the coming seasons.
The district now offers seven community garden sites. The two newest sites are at Bethany Lake Park, at the intersection of NW 185th Avenue and West Union Road, and Southminster Presbyterian Church, at 12250 SW Denney Road. The Bethany Lake garden is open now, while Southminster will be available to the public May 1.
Both Bethany Lake and Southminster still have garden plots available. THPRD's Nature Park Interpretive Center offering day-off nature camps

Oregon boasts many type of climates and habitats. And children will be able to tell you all about them after attending one of the Day-Off Nature Camps at the THPRD Nature Park Interpretive Center.
Day-off Nature Camps are offered at the Nature Park Interpretive Center, 15655 SW Millikan Way in Beaverton.
The camps were established to give children with a day off from school a day of fun and learning while connecting them to their natural world. They are ideal for working parents and kids “with nothing to do” on their day off. Campers should be dropped off at 8 a.m. and picked up at 5 p.m. Ages range from 7 to 11. Camp prices vary.
