You don’t have to look far within THPRD boundaries these days to see positive changes happening.
The Conestoga Recreation & Aquatic Center and the Elsie Stuhr Center are undergoing large renovations. Lost Park has colorful new play equipment. Meadow Waye Park is newly opened and features a multi-use athletic field. And decisions have been made about trails in Lowami Hart Woods Park.

Health & Wellness Fair set for Stuhr Center on Oct. 1

Get a flu shot, be screened for a variety of health issues, and learn about important health topics.
The 12th annual Health & Wellness Resource Fair at the Elsie Stuhr Center runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 5550 S.W. Hall Blvd., Beaverton.
Attendees also may benefit from free screenings, provided by the Lions Club, for blood pressure, hearing, vision, glaucoma and diabetes.

New fishing dock now available at Progress Lake

A newly completed fishing dock is now available at Progress Lake, located at the intersection of Barrows Road and SW Mallard. It’s a great place to fish for trout.
The dock was funded in part by a grant from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Check our website in the coming days for more information.

New EV charging station opens at HMT

THPRD has opened an electric vehicle charging station at its HMT Recreation Complex, 15707 SW Walker Road, Beaverton. EV owners will find it in the parking lot off 158th Avenue, just north of NW Schendel Avenue.
It’s part of a national pilot program, the EV Project, designed to
gauge American use of electric cars.

Fall native plant sale coming soon

For the sixth straight year, the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District’s Finance Department has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

In memory of John Smithers
|
This issue of Tualatin Hills Today is dedicated to John Smithers, who died unexpectedly on Aug. 4 at the age of 38.
John was a communications specialist for THPRD. Among many other duties, he created this newsletter and produced every issue from June 2009 through July 2011.
He leaves his wife and two daughters in Beaverton; his father and brother in Missoula, Mont.; and countless other relatives, friends and acquaintances.
At a memorial service in Beaverton on Aug. 27, John was remembered for his caring heart, many talents, and intense devotion to family and faith. He is greatly missed.
